MinuteClinic Now Open in Silver Spring Target

SILVER SPRING, MD – Target now offers a new service: MinuteClinic.

Previously, the Silver Spring store offered "Target Clinic," but CVS Health—parent company of MinuteClinic—acquired all of Target's pharmacies and health centers in December and has rebranded them in recent months as MinuteClinics.

MinuteClinic provides evaluations by nurse practitioners or physician assistants for patients on a walk-in basis. The concept was designed for family care issues like strep throat, bladder infections, sprains and minor wounds.

In addition, the clinic offers screenings for several conditions and common vaccinations like influenza, tetanus, pneumonia and Hepatitis A and B.

"...some services will be new to Target guests, including treatment for minor sprains and strains, contraceptive care and smoking cessation counseling," said Andrew Sussman, M.D., MinuteClinic president and CVS Health's executive vice president/chief medical officer.

Eight Target stores in Maryland have undergone the rebranding from Target Clinic to MinuteClinic; locations are in Annapolis, Baltimore, Bel Air, Cockeysville, Ellicott City, Nottingham, Silver Spring and Towson.

There are 35 additional MinuteClinics in the state, providing care for people at a time when it is convenient for them.

"About 50 percent of MinuteClinic visits occur on evenings, weekends and holidays when patients may not be able to get an appointment with their primary care provider and otherwise may need to choose more expensive emergency department or urgent care options," Sussman said. "Also, approximately half of the patients seen at MinuteClinic are 'medically homeless' and do not have a personal physician."

In Maryland, MinuteClinic is affiliated with MedStar Health and the University of Maryland Medical System.

The Silver Spring MinuteClinic is in the Target at 12000 Cherry Hill Road. Hours are 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. There are also two other MinuteClinics in Silver Spring—inside the CVS pharmacies at 12359 Georgia Avenue and 9520 Georgia Avenue.
