​Montgomery County 2018 Election Results​

Check out who won and lost in the Montgomery County race on Tuesday, Nov. 6.

SILVER SPRING, MD — The wait is finally over. The Maryland Board of Elections has published the Montgomery County race results. Keep reading to learn who won and lost on Tuesday, Nov. 6. The results are not official until canvassed in a few days.

County Executive

Montgomery County voters have elected Democrat Marc Elrich as county executive, according to unofficial vote returns from the Maryland Board of Elections. Elrich defeated Democrat-turned-independent Nancy Floreen and Republican Robin Ficker in the highly contentious race. Elrich will replace Democrat Ike Leggett, who will retire at the end of this year.


County Council Members

The following are the four winning at-large candidates: Evan Glass, a former CNN journalist; Will Jawando, a former Obama administration official; Gabe Albornoz, a former director of Montgomery county's recreation department; and Hans Riemer, a two-term incumbent. All four men are Democrats.

Andrew Friedson won the district 1 seat. He will be succeeding council member Roger Berliner.

Democratic incumbent Craig Rice defeated Republican challenger Ed Amatetti in district 2. According to the Maryland Board of Elections, Rice won 70.6 percent of the vote.

Sidney Katz, a Democrat, ran uncontested in district 3.

In district 4, Democratic incumbent Nancy Navarro won with 97 percent of the vote. She ran against Green Party candidate Howard Zuses.

Tom Hucker, a Democrat, was reelected for a second term. Hucker ran unopposed in district 5.


Montgomery County Sheriff

Democratic incumbent Darren Mark Popkin defeated Republican challenger Jae Hwang. Popkin won 75.7 percent of the vote, according to the elections board. There is no term limit for this position. Each term lasts four years.


State's Attorney

Democratic incumbent John McCarthy is the only candidate running in this race. There is no term limit; and each term lasts four years.


Circuit Court Judges

County Circuit Court associate judges Jeannie E. Cho, Kevin G. Hessler, Debra L. Dwyer, David W. Lease, James A. Bonifant, Margaret Marie Schweitzer, and Jill Reid Cummins were reelected.
