Montgomery Police Salute Olney Hospital Workers During Pandemic
About a dozen police cruisers — all flashing lights and blaring sirens — circled around Medstar Montgomery to honor hospital staff.
SILVER SPRING, MD — Montgomery County police officers paraded around MedStar Montgomery Monday morning to honor health care workers on the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic.
About a dozen police cruisers — all flashing lights and blaring sirens — circled around the Olney hospital to salute the sacrifices being made by medical staff.
Ann Serafenas, senior director of nursing at Medstar Montgomery, told Montgomery Community Media she was moved by the police's tribute.

"To see our community partners the police officers come through to honor us was incredibly touching," said Serafenas. "They help us. They bring patients to us ... so I look at it as a mutual tribute."

Montgomery County is one of the hardest hit jurisdictions in Maryland.
On the day of the parade, health officials recorded 5,384 confirmed coronavirus cases in the county. As of Tuesday, there are 5,541 positive infections.
Data from the Maryland Department of Health does not show how many COVID-19 patients have checked into Medstar Montgomery. But based on the breakdown of cases by ZIP code, the Olney area has more than 78 cases.
