Motorcyclist Dies in Crash with Truck Near Silver Spring

A Hyattsville man died from injuries suffered in a collision Saturday when his motorcycle collided with a GMC truck, police say.

SILVER SPRING, MD — A Hyattsville man died Saturday night when his motorcycle collided with a truck at a Silver Spring-area intersection, authorities say.

Montgomery County Police say the fatal crash happened about 10:30 p.m. on University Boulevard and Merrimac Drive. First responders found a 1999 Honda motorcycle that had been involved in a crash with a 2011 GMC Savana rental truck. The motorcyclist — Jose Armando Lemus, 23, of the 2300 block of Apache Street in Hyattsville — was found dead at the scene from injuries suffered during the collision, police say.

Investigators say Lemus' motorcycle was eastbound on University Boulevard and the GMC truck was traveling south on Merrimac Drive. As the truck crossed University Boulevard, the truck and the motorcycle collided.

The truck's driver is identified as Justin Magnus, 28, of the 300 block of Read Avenue in Tuckahoe, NY. He did not report any injuries.
