New All-Private Room Hospital To Open In White Oak On Aug. 25

The 180-bed White Oak Medical Center, located off U.S. Route 29, will replace the Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Adventist HealthCare is opening a new, all-private room hospital in White Oak on Aug. 25, the Gaithersburg-based organization announced on Monday.

The 180-bed White Oak Medical Center will replace the Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park, which will turn into a 24/7 urgent care center. Up to 1,400 employees from Takoma Park will move to the new facility at 12100 Plum Orchard Drive, according to the Washington Business Journal.

The $404 million, 472,000-square-foot hospital will have the latest equipment, including 28 intensive care unit beds, 22 maternity beds, an emergency department with more than three dozen treatment bays, and larger operating rooms, according to the outlet.

"We're pleased to be bringing our mission, high-quality care and compassion to a state-of-the-art healthcare campus designed for our community and caregivers," said President Erik Wangsness.

The facility is located at the center of Life Sciences Gateway and is a neighbor and research partner to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, said Adventist Healthcare officials.
