Next Safe Silver Spring meeting 7/15 at new 3rd District station with new Commander Jones; United4CommonGood +

1)      The next Safe Silver Spring meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 7 p.m. It will be held at the new 3rd District Police Station in White Oak. The Station is at 1002 Milestone Drive, Silver Spring, Maryland 20904. You can reach Milestone Drive from Route 29 or from New Hampshire Ave, just north of the 29 intersection.

After a 20 minute tour of the station, we will meet with the new 3rd District Commander Marcus Jones.  Please come with questions.

This initiative is related to the Purple Line Compact which is led by Casa de Maryland, and other leading organizations.  Safe Silver Spring is a supporter of this Compact.  The Compact is designed to ensure that the residents, small businesses and workers in the International Corridor are protected from any negative impacts of the Purple Line.

a) Census Bureau Looking for Community Organizations to Help Reach Hundreds for Temporary Jobs in Montgomery County This Summer

 The Census Bureau needs help reaching prospective applicants for the hundreds for temporary 2014 Census Test jobs they are hiring for in Montgomery County. Nonprofits, faith-based organizations, and community groups are all great resources for recruiting applicants. If your organization is willing to provide testing space for job seekers and conduct the outreach to make sure applicants know about this opportunity, you could help employ members of our community in good paying, temporary positions. Part-time positions are available from June through September, Paying from $18.50-$20.00 an hour. Please contact Nesreen Khashan at 202-510-6403 or nesreen.khashan@census.gov  with any questions or to find out how your organization can become a testing site.

Please join us for a webinar on "Using Title IV-E for Juvenile Justice: The Multnomah County Experience" on July 23 at 1:00pm ET.

This webinar will explain how jurisdictions can leverage Title IV-E of the Social Security Act to support programs and services in their juvenile justice system. Participants will learn about Title IV-E, what types of programs and services can receive Title IV-E reimbursement, and how different stakeholders can support the implementation of a Title IV-E claiming program in their jurisdiction. Participants will gain insight into the lessons learned from the thoughtful, collaborative process executed in Multnomah County, Oregon.

Christina McMahan, Director of the Juvenile Services Division at the Department of Community Justice in Multnomah County, Oregon will serve as presenter.
