Pedestrian Hit By SUV on Capital Beltway in Silver Spring
A driver who tried to cross the Capital Beltway on foot to retrieve a wheel that had come off was struck by an SUV in Silver Spring.

SILVER SPRING, MD — A driver who tried to cross the Capital Beltway on foot to retrieve a wheel that had come off his vehicle was struck by an SUV. Maryland State Police say the victim, who is not being identified pending notification of family, was seriously injured and taken to Prince George’s Hospital for treatment.
The accident happened about 9:50 p.m. on eastbound Interstate 495 west of New Hampshire Avenue/Maryland Route 650 in Silver Spring. Investigators say the victim was eastbound on the Beltway when the wheel came off of his vehicle and struck another vehicle. Both drivers pulled over to the right shoulder and began to exchange information. The victim called a tow truck to the scene to remove his vehicle from the interstate.
While waiting for the tow truck, the victim walked onto the travel lanes of eastbound Interstate 495 to retrieve the wheel and was struck by a black 2008 Lincoln Navigator driven by Francis Neuberger, 66, of Columbia.
