Pedestrian Killed by Trash Truck at Silver Spring School

SILVER SPRING, MD — A man walking in the parking lot of a Silver Spring elementary school was hit and killed by a trash truck Wednesday afternoon, according to Montgomery County Police. The fatal accident happened just after 5 p.m. at Cresthaven Elementary School, 1234 Cresthaven Drive.

Investigators say a waste disposal truck was backing up in the school parking lot when the victim, a man believed to be in his 60s who was using a walker, was struck by the truck. The victim died from his injuries at the scene.

Police say the driver of the waste disposal truck remained at the scene. Once family members have been notified, police said they will release the names of the victim and the truck driver.
