Police Shoot, Kill Armed Bank Robber In Silver Spring: UPDATE
An armed bank robbery suspect who claimed to have a bomb was shot and killed by police Wednesday in Silver Spring.

SILVER SPRING, MD — An armed bank robbery suspect who claimed to have a bomb was fatally shot by Montgomery County Police Wednesday in Silver Spring.
Officials said the incident happened at the BB&T Bank in the 1100 block of Wayne Ave., near the Silver Spring Metro station, around 10:48 a.m.
The suspect entered the bank manager's office, said he had a bomb in his backpack, flashed a handgun, and demanded $20,000 in cash, Asst. Chief Marcus Jones said. When the bank manager went to the teller line, the "panic button" was pressed. It is not immediately known who pressed it.

Once the suspect heard sirens, the suspect fled the BB&T Bank without the money, Jones said. The suspect then slipped into an alley behind the building, near the Metro, and was confronted by a Montgomery County Police.
Following the confrontation, police shot the suspect. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring — where he died, Jones said.

Jones added that buildings have been evacuated while a bomb squad investigates the suspect's backpack.
