Summer is winding down, and fall will be here before we know it! Beat the rush and get registered for Home School programs at The Highwood Theatre now!
The vision of the Home School Production Company is to develop and inspire a community of self-confident, insightful creators with a passion for collaboration, theatre, and the arts. This year, the Fall segment (September 30th – December 16th) will focus on developing and writing a theatre piece. Students in this segment will learn about all aspects of theatre through workshops, exercises, and games, and will work with theatre professionals to write or adapt their own theatre piece. The Winter/Spring segment (January 13th – March 31st) will focus on rehearsing and producing the piece written in the fall, and will culminate in a final production. Students in this segment will rehearse for and then perform the student-written piece in a full-scale production. The Home School Production Company is open to students grades 2-7 and meets every Friday from 12:30 – 3:30 PM. Participation fee is $250 plus a $25 materials fee.
The Home School class this Fall is “Living Shakespeare,” where students grades 1-7 can explore the world of Shakespeare in this engaging, active class. Not only will students get a chance to read and act some of Shakespeare’s greatest scenes and monologues, they will explore the stories behind his work and what life was like in Shakespearean times. This class culminates in a final showcase performance. The Fall segment runs September 30th – November 18th, and meets on Fridays from 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM. Participation Fee is $200 (or $125 if you also sign up for the Home School Production Company).

The Student Tech Crew is open to Home School students in grades 4 – 12 who will meet regularly to learn about all aspects of Technical Theatre and create the technical elements of Highwood’s Mainstage Season of student and professional productions. Students will have the opportunity to work on all aspects of technical theatre and will get to choose their focus area to work on for each production (set, props, costumes, lighting, sound). Tech Crew members can choose to come one or two days per week: Thursday evenings 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm or Saturday afternoons 12:00 pm – 2:30 pm. The Fall semester runs from September 8th – December 15th, but we offer open enrollment throughout the year, so you can join us anytime! Participation Fee is $80 a month for once a week sessions.
Registration is also open for our Winter and Spring Home School classes. In the Winter, we'll be offering an Improv Comedy class where students will explore all areas of improv, through fun and hilarious games and exercises. Students are consistently challenged and inspired to take risks, do their best, and develop as confident collaborators and creators. This class meets January 13th - March 3rd on Fridays from 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM. In the Spring, we're offering Stage Combat, an important skill for any thespian, but also a fun activity for young students. In this class, participants learn how to safely fall, hit, and "fight" onstage, including introductory sword play (with swimming noodles!). Both classes culminate in a final workshop performance for friends and family. This class meets April 7th - June 2nd on Fridays from 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM. Each class's Participation Fee is $200 (or $125 if you also sign up for the Home School Production Company).
