Riderwood Residents and Staff Give Back

Riderwood Residents and Staff give generously throughout the holiday season

Silver Spring, Md. – At Riderwood, an Erickson Senior Living managed community in Silver Spring, MD, residents enjoy a passion for making a positive difference in the lives of their neighbors and members of the local community. Throughout the year, numerous, resident-run efforts illustrate this generosity including teaching English, working at the Treasure Chest, and volunteering at the campus television station.

"We have hundreds of resident volunteers who dedicate their time to helping others all year long," says community resource manager Fiona Divecha. "These dedicated residents volunteer their time in a variety of ways, including service on various resident committees; leading resident clubs and activities; working with Riderwood’s diverse religious communities; and offering their support to a wide range of local organizations.”

During the holiday season, Riderwood’s spirit of generosity grows exponentially through a variety of annual efforts designed to meet specific needs within the local community.

This November, members of the Riderwood community participated in an annual Turkey Trot, donating all money raised to the Maryland Food Bank. This year, more than 60 local residents enjoyed a delicious Thanksgiving meal as a result of these efforts.

Currently, in preparation for the impending harsh weather, members of Riderwood’s talented Needlecrafters group are currently collecting both store bought and handmade mittens, hats, gloves, and scarfs as part of their Mitten Tree project. All of the donated items will be given to members of the local community.
