Silver Spring Couple Nabs Elusive $100,000 Scratch-Off Winner

The winners researched the Maryland Lottery's Crossword Deluxe game and caught its first winner after buying three tickets.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Research paid off 100,000 times for a pair of Maryland Lottery scratch-off enthusiasts, who searched the Lottery website for an exciting instant ticket to purchase. When they spotted their prey, a Crossword Deluxe game, the Silver Spring residents hunted down the game’s first $100,000 top prize.

They set out on their adventure knowing the $10 game still had all six top-prize tickets waiting for discovery. In search of the ever-elusive top-prize scratch-off win, the loyal players tried their luck at three different Lottery retailers: a 7-Eleven, a gas station and a Safeway store located at 10541 Connecticut Ave. in Kensington. They bought a Crossword Deluxe instant ticket at each retailer and went home to see if they’d found Lottery luck.

“I couldn’t believe it,” one of the winners told Maryland Lottery officials. Playing Pick 3/Pick 4 has only given them small prizes in the past. The couple didn’t share the great news with anyone other than their two children. They haven’t made many plans for their prize but may eventually take a vacation.
