80-Year-Old Grandmother From Silver Spring Scratches Way To $100K MD Lottery Win
A Silver Spring grandmother said her mind was blown when she won $100,000 from a Maryland Lottery scratch-off ticket.

SILVER SPRING, MD — An 80-year-old scratch-off player from Silver Spring told Maryland Lottery officials that she cried tears of joy when she discovered she'd won the $100,000 top prize in the Money Bag Multiplier game.
“I was shaking and kept looking at the ticket,” she said. “I’ve hit small amounts in the past, but this blew my mind.”
The Silver Spring resident was running errands earlier this week, when she stopped at Calverton Liquors in Beltsville to buy some scratch-off games. After buying two $10 Money Bag Multiplier tickets, the woman returned to her car and discovered she'd won $1oo,000.

After taking a moment to compose herself, the woman drove to her daughter's house. Her daughter confirmed that her mother had won the $100,000 prize.
“I thought something was wrong, because she usually calls first,” the daughter said, who accompanied her mother to lottery's Baltimore to claim the prize . “It took a minute for it to sink in, but I am so happy for her.”

The winning grandmother plans to use the prize money to help her grandchildren with college expenses and make some home improvements. She'll also share some of the money with her daughter.
For selling the $100,000 top prize scratch-off ticket, Calverton Liquors, which is located at 11717 Beltsville Drive, will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.
