Silver Spring Man Scores Big In Maryland Lottery
A 66-year-old Silver Spring man won a $50,000 prize in the Aug. 2 drawing of Powerball, the Maryland Lottery announced.

SILVER SPRING, MD — A 66-year-old Silver Spring man won a $50,000 prize in the Aug. 2 drawing of Powerball, according to the Maryland Lottery.
The man purchased the winning ticket from Hillandale Beer & Wine at 10117 New Hampshire Ave.
The Silver Spring resident regularly plays sets of his lucky numbers, involving family birthdays and one random set of numbers. He then goes to Hillandale Beer & Wine and asks the clerk to check his tickets to see if he has any winners.

“I went to the retailer and gave a clerk a number of tickets I hadn’t checked for a month,” the man said.
Sure enough, his lucky Powerball ticket for four drawings came up as a big winner. The clerk printed out the winning numbers for several weeks of drawings and they discovered his set of random numbers won.

The man said he is going to use the money to pay off a student loan for one of his three daughters and remodel a bathroom in his home.
The Aug. 16 jackpot has reached $430 million with a cash option of $273.4 million.
