Silver Spring Shooting Result Of An Altercation: Police

Police say a shooting in downtown Silver Spring Monday stemmed from an argument outside The Society Restaurant & Lounge​.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Montgomery County police say a shooting in downtown Silver Spring Monday morning was the result of an altercation.

At approximately 3:05 a.m., police received multiple reports of gunfire in the 8200 block of Georgia Ave.

After speaking to witnesses, authorities determined that two groups of people were involved in an argument outside of The Society Restaurant & Lounge, located at 8229 Georgia Ave.

"One of the individuals involved in the altercation entered the driver's side of a black sedan that was parallel parked on Georgia Avenue and drove away," police said in a statement. "As the vehicle traveled north on Georgia Avenue, several shots were fired from the vehicle."

According to authorities, several businesses in the area were damaged by the shots. No injuries were reported to police.

Police do not believe the shooting was random.

Anyone with information about the shooting or the suspects should call detectives at 240-773-6870. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call the county's Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477). Crime Solvers is offering a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
