SILVER SPRING, MD — A Silver Spring woman who's chased the Mega Millions jackpot all of her life finally saw her persistence pay off when she won a $1 million second-tier prize in the April 18 drawing.
“I didn’t believe it. I didn’t know how to react,” the 61-year-old sales associate told lottery officials. Although surprised in the moment, the woman did say that she'd be a big winner one day. She plans to pay off her mortgage with her winnings.
The woman came up with her winning numbers by combining her birthday and that of friend's, along with some other random numbers when she filled out her $8 Mega Millions ticket. She then played two lines using those numbers in the April 18 and April 21 drawings.
