Free Summer Screening Series Returns To Silver Spring Friday

The American Film Institute of Silver Spring will kick off their second annual outdoor film festival in Veterans Plaza this Friday.

SILVER SPRING, MD — The American Film Institute of Silver Spring will kick off their second annual Silver Screens outdoor film festival in Veterans Plaza this Friday.

The free weekly screenings will be held at 8 p.m. Aug. 11 to Sept. 1. This summer's lineup includes:

  • Aug. 11: “Back to the Future Part II” (1989)
  • Aug. 18: “Lego the Batman Movie” (2017)
  • Aug. 25: “Purple Rain” (1984)
  • Sept. 1: “School of Rock” (2003)

“Thanks to the generosity of our own American Film Institute, Silver Screens is a great way for families to get together and enjoy some fun movies,” Councilmember Tom Hucker, who helped launch the series last year, said in a statement.

Moviegoers are encouraged to bring their own seats. The screenings are free and open to all, no tickets needed. The viewings will be held rain or shine.
