Traffic Alert: Lanes to Be Closed on I-495 for Bridge Work
Drivers should be prepared for intermittent 15-minute road closures on Interstate 495 in Silver Spring starting next week.

The Maryland State Highway Administration is warning drivers of overnight lane closures along I-495 (Capital Beltway) in Silver Spring starting next week.
Beginning Monday night, June 9, and continuing each weeknight through Thursday night, crews will remove the existing girders from the MD 193 (University Boulevard) bridge over I-495.

This work will require a 15-minute, intermittent closure of all lanes on either the inner or outer loop between midnight and 4 a.m. Weather permitting, lanes will re-open no later than 4 a.m.
Drivers will begin to see work zone signs and traffic stoppages as they approach Exits 28 (MD 650 - New Hampshire Avenue) or Exit 30 (US 29 - Colesville Road). No overnight closures are scheduled on Friday or Saturday, weather permitting.

The work is part of a $9.6 million bridge replacement project to replace the University Boulevard Bridge over I-495.
