Victims In Fatal Silver Spring Crash Identified

Two Hyattsville residents were killed in a Saturday morning crash involving a food delivery truck in Silver Spring, according to police.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Two Hyattsville residents who were killed in crash involving a food delivery truck in Silver Spring has been identified, according to Montgomery County police.

The crash took place at the intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and Northampton Drive shortly before 6 a.m. on Saturday. Police say a Peapod Freightliner was going south on New Hampshire Avenue when it struck a Toyota Corolla that was making a left turn onto Northampton Drive.

Ismael Melchor Salazar, 39, who was the driver of the Corolla, died at the scene, according to officials. Maribel Zelaya de Reyes, 41, a passenger, died at a local hospital. A third passenger, whom police did not identify, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police have identified the driver of the Peapod truck as James Richard Bailey Jr. He was not injured in the crash, according to a news release.

The fatal collision is still under investigation. Officials ask anyone with information to call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.
