The strong winds and heavy rains that lashed Montgomery County on Wednesday night damaged one house.

SILVER SPRING, MD — An elderly Silver Spring man suffered cuts and bruises when a basement wall collapsed on him during Wednesday’s thunderstorms.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue crews extricated the 86-year-old Layhill man after he was trapped by the wall. The collapse was reported about 7 p.m. at the home at 2415 Briggs Road, said fire department spokesman Pete Piringer.
