UPDATE: Woman Shot at Leisure World, One in Custody

(Updated at 2:17 p.m.) SILVER SPRING, MD — A young woman was injured in a shooting Thursday at Leisure World, and a man is in custody, Montgomery County Police told Patch. Authorities say the attack at the senior citizen community in Silver Spring appears to be a domestic incident.

The victim, a 19-year-old woman, is in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Montgomery County Police were called to the scene about 9:30 a.m. A 22-year-old man has been taken into custody, police said.

Leisure World has about 8,000 residents, age 55 and older. Amenities include an 18-hole golf course, two clubhouses, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts, dining facilities, bus transportation, and a medical center with pharmacy. Roughly 220 full-time and part-time employees work at Leisure World.
