NKF-MD To Honor Matthew R. Weir, M.D.

The National Kidney Foundation of Maryland (NKF-MD) will honor Matthew R. Weir, M.D. (attending physician and director, University of Maryland School of Medicine’s nephrology division and professor, University of Maryland School of Medicine) for making an impact in an extraordinary way.

The author of over 500 manuscripts and book chapters, Weir has edited four books on topics in nephrology, transplantation and hypertension. He has presented at numerous international scientific association meetings, hospitals and medical schools, and has two active NIH supported grants from NIDDK.

Currently, the Lutherville resident reviews manuscripts for more than 30 major medical journals, including the American Journal of Kidney Disease, the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology and Archives of Internal Medicine. He is also on the editorial board of 12 journals and is section editor of Current Hypertension Reports and Current Opinion in Hypertension and Nephrology.

Weir has served NKF-MD for many years and currently sits on its board of directors and medical advisory board. He also holds memberships in numerous associations, including the American Society of Nephrology, the American Heart Association and the American Society of Transplantation

NKF-MD will present the award at its 3rd annual Santé: Spoil Your Palate celebration (www.santebaltimore.com), Saturday, Nov. 10, from 7 to 10:30 p.m., at the B&O Railroad Museum.

Santé is being planned as the area’s premier food and beverage pairing event. With WJZ-TV Anchor Don Scott as emcee, this business/casual fête will feature Maryland’s best cuisine, prepared by some of its most acclaimed chefs, complimented by American and European craft beer; wine and spirits.

The National Kidney Foundation of Maryland, serving central and western Maryland, the Delmarva Peninsula and portions of West Virginia, is the area’s only voluntary health agency dedicated to the prevention, treatment and cure of kidney and urinary tract diseases.
