NKF-MD’s Christie Vera Named to Daily Record’s 2012 List of Maryland’s Leading Women

Christie Vera, director of development and marketing for the Lutherville-based National Kidney Foundation of Maryland (NKF-MD), has been named to The Daily Record's 2012 List of Maryland's Leading Women.

The Daily Record’s Leading Women awards program identifies 50 women who are 40 years of age or younger for the tremendous accomplishments they have made so far in their careers. A panel of judges comprising past Top 100 winners selected the honorees based on their professional experiences, community involvement and commitment to inspiring change.

“Leading Women shines the spotlight on the next generation of this state’s outstanding women, who represent Maryland’s future,” said Daily Record Publisher Suzanne Fischer-Huettner. “It is our honor to recognize Christie Vera for both her accomplishments to date and the promise of her future achievements.” 

The Leading Women will be recognized at an awards ceremony, Dec. 6 at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore. They also will be profiled in a special magazine, to be included in The Daily Record Dec. 7 edition.

"I am honored to be included among such a distinguished group of women and I look forward to continuing to give back to the community,” said Vera, who selected for inclusion on The Daily Record’s 2012 VIP - Very Important Professionals Successful by 40 - List, earlier this year.

At NKF-MD, Vera oversees the development department, and coordinates the statewide marketing and communications campaign for development and programs/patient services. Her additional responsibilities include managing the Kidney Walk events and managing staff members who maintain the Foundation’s website and social networking tools to expand marketing efforts and drive fundraising.

Vera previously served the March of Dimes for six years. During her term as recruitment manager, she led a transition team which merged five walk sites into one large scale fundraising event, thereby increasing fundraising growth by 20 percent year over year. Furthermore, the organization won the 2010 Chapter of the Year Award in revenue development under her leadership.

A Pace University graduate, Vera volunteered with Big Brother Big Sister of Central Maryland and Habitat for Humanity in Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina. She currently sits on Towson University’s Nonprofit Leadership Alliance Advisory Board.
