Cadbury Eggs vs. Peeps: The Ultimate Easter Candy Debate

Leave your carrots for the Bunny—Easter is a holiday for the sweet-toothed.

Americans are expected to spend $2.2 billion this year just on Easter candy alone, according to the National Retail Federation.

Among the endless Easter sweets popping up on store shelves, there are two that undoubtedly remain at the top: Cadbury Creme Eggs and Peeps. With Easter soon approaching, we had to revisit the age-old debate: which one is better?

Although a seemingly simple question, the answer may never be known.

We put the question to Lutherville-Timonium Patch Facebook fans, filled with impassioned Easter candy lovers—and fierce opposers—to weigh in on the debate. Although, many thought that a beloved treat was missing from the holiday question.

The result: Mary Sue Eggs, a Maryland tradition.

• LuAnn B. — “Why choose? Have it all!”
• Jamie M. — “They’re both awful! Mary Sue butter cream is the only Easter egg.”
• Pamela C. — “Ditto on the MarySue. Choc butter cream for me, please.”

Now, which part of the chocolate Easter bunny should be eaten first? We’ll save that debate for next year.
