Classic Five Golf Junior Girls Golf Program Plants Butterfly Garden At Pine Ridge Golf Course

McCormick & Company helps BMGC's Junior Girls' Program plant a pollinator garden behind the first tee box at Pine Ridge Golf Course

Baltimore, MD The Baltimore Municipal Golf Corporation (BMGC) today announced the opening of a new butterfly garden at Pine Ridge Golf Course, planted as part of a community partnership between the Baltimore Golf Academy’s Junior Girls Golf Program and Baltimore-based spice manufacturer McCormick & Company.

Joined by several community partners, the Junior Girls Golf Program planted the new pollinator garden behind the first tee box at Pine Ridge Golf Course. A “planting team” made up of a dozen girls who learn golf and life skills through the Junior Girls Golf Program worked together to plant more than 150 items as part of the project.

The initiative was funded by McCormick & Co. and plants were provided by Blue Water Baltimore, which operates the Herring Run Nursery near Pine Ridge Golf Course. Rick Kingsbury, a local landscape architect, also donated his time to design the garden.

Julieta Stack, Director of Golf Instruction at the Baltimore Golf Academy, hailed the partnership as a success, bringing together organizations in the community together to teach junior girl golfers vital life skills and the importance of community service.

“We are excited to have had the opportunity to partner with McCormick & Co., Blue Water Baltimore and others to improve the overall experience for our juniors,” said Stack, who organized the butterfly garden initiative. “We’re extremely excited about the results of this partnership and hope to continue forging partnerships like this in the community to encourage young golfers to become involved in the game as well as the community.”
