Community Rallies to Support Local Icon "Hollywood Steve" Bauer Following Stage 4 Cancer Diagnosis

BALTIMORE, MD — For more than four decades, Steve Bauer and Marianne Wittelsberger—the duo famously known as "The Jokesters"—have dedicated their lives to bringing laughter to others. Now, the Baltimore community is coming together to return the favor as Steve faces his toughest audience yet: Stage 4 colorectal cancer.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support the beloved entertainer, aiming to alleviate the mounting financial pressure of medical treatments and daily essentials while Steve undergoes aggressive chemotherapy.

A Legacy of Laughter and Service

To many in the Baltimore area, Steve and Marianne are more than just performers; they are local staples. Families often spent their Saturday mornings with the pair at Towson Town Center and White Marsh Mall in the mid-late 90's. Their career, however, stretches far beyond Baltimore, spanning from hosting a comedy cable access program in Los Angeles to shaping the next generation of makeup artist as instructors in the Theater Department at Towson Universityand Camp BCS as Teaching Artists

Perhaps their most profound impact has been behind the scenes in the medical community. For years, the couple worked with the University of Maryland Medical Center, using their expertise in realistic trauma makeup to assist in trauma response exercises, helping train the first responders who save lives every day.

The Road Ahead

The diagnosis has brought their professional lives to a sudden halt. While Steve focuses on his health, Marianne has stepped into a full-time role as his primary caregiver, navigating a complex web of medical appointments and care.

"The stress of dealing with cancer is huge, plus the financial burden that comes with it is overwhelming," the campaign states. "Contributing to these expenses will help alleviate some of the added stress... It gives them a chance to focus on getting Steve better."
