Drunk Baltimore County Man Charged In Deadly Ocean City Chase: PD

A Lutherville-Timonium man has been charged with DUI, homicide and multiple other offenses, according to the Ocean City Police Department.

OCEAN CITY, MD — A man who lives in Lutherville-Timonium is being held without bail in Ocean City after a deadly crash early Friday morning. Police said the man would not pull over when officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, and he tried to run away after hitting a vehicle whose driver was killed as the car burst into flames.

Todd Pivec, 41, of the unit block of Spyglass Court in Lutherville-Timonium, has been charged with negligent manslaughter, criminal negligent manslaughter, negligent vehicular homicide under the influence, vehicular homicide while impaired by alcohol and resisting/interfering with arrest, court records show. He was also cited for two dozen traffic violations, such as driving on a suspended license, speeding, failure to remain at the scene and trying to elude police, among others.

Police allege Pivec crashed into a vehicle on 46th Street at Coastal Highway in Ocean City that became engulfed in flames, killing the driver, around 1:15 a.m. Friday, June 21. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene and has not yet been identified, pending next-of-kin notification.

After the crash, police said that Pivec's Lexus LX 570 ran into a telephone pole and became immobilized, at which point he tried to run away but was taken into custody.

Authorities said they had attempted to stop him at 59th Street and Coastal Highway after getting a report about a drunk driver. Officers saw his white Lexus SUV, which then traveled out of sight.

Within moments, investigators said Pivec hit a vehicle that was going south on 46th Street.

Despite his attempt to run, police said Pivec was immediately arrested.
