Description: We are looking for Earth stewards, age
18+, to participate in our new Stream Watch/Adopt-a-Stream program. You simply attend
this training, then agree to clean your adopted stream 2x a year, send us your
trash data form, and watch for stream hazards. It’s that simple! Great for
families, neighborhoods, scouts, churches or school groups.
This training will include a power point
presentation and information on stream health parameters. Depending on weather,
we may conduct a stream side training as well. Workshop participants will learn
about the Gunpowder watershed, the challenges it faces, and how we can help
County agencies protect and improve our local streams. Topics will include how
to safely remove trash from the stream, how to properly identify problems such
as sewer breaks and illicit discharges, who to contact to report such problems,
and how to determine the health of a stream by identifying the creatures that
live within it. Bring water bottle,
notebook/pen.
Contact: Workshop space is limited to 20 volunteers, so please sign up
soon! To register or if you have any questions, please contact Peggy Perry, Program
Director of Education and Restoration for GVC at pperry@gunpowderfalls.org or 410-668-0118.
