Farm Fresh Flicks - A Seedy Collection of Films


Farm Fresh Flicks features evenings of farm-inspired films served with local beer/wine and film-inspired savory snacks cooked up by local restaurateurs using locally grown and produced ingredients, topped off with thought provoking conversation with a panel of local experts. Each ticket is $15 per person or $50 per person for the full four-film series. Your ticket purchase helps support on-going agricultural education, demonstrations, and innovation driven by the Maryland Agricultural Resource Council.

Mad City Chickens is a sometimes serious, sometimes whimsical look at the people who keep urban chickens in their backyards. From experts and authors to a rescued landfill chicken or an inexperienced family that takes the poultry plunge—it’s a humorous and heartfelt trip through the world of backyard chickendom.


June 6, 2013 - " Pressure Cooker"


Wilma Stephenson, the sparkplug whose culinary arts classes at Frankford High School in Northeast Philadelphia give young people from poor backgrounds the opportunity to compete for scholarships, is a strict disciplinarian who has taught at Frankford for 38 years.The movie follows three likable junior chefs who flourish under her guidance: Erica Gaither, who comes from a broken home, is a surrogate mother for her blind, disabled younger sister. Tyree Dudley, an all-state football player, struggles to balance athletics and academics. For Fatoumata Dembele, who was born in Mali and emigrated from Africa four years earlier, Frankford High is paradise compared with an African school she attended that was many miles from home and required her to make the long daily journey on foot.

November 7, 2013 - "To Make A Farm"


Starting a farm from scratch takes more than just imagination, but it’s a good place to start. Often considered a way of life from the past, today there is a movement of young people without farming backgrounds taking up this challenging profession. To Make A Farm follows the lives of five such young people through their first seasons on the land, as the joys and disappointments of bringing life from the earth become a quiet manifesto for social change. Documentary filmmaker Steve Suderman searches his own family history in farming to wonder if the mistakes of the past can be avoided this time through.
