R Baby Foundation improves healthcare for infants all over the country. We have life-saving grants that focus on effective pediatric ER and neonatal training programs, rapid detection and diagnosis of viruses, innovative research and more. We have raised over $4.5 million and over 90% of every dollar has gone towards working to save babies' lives.
R Baby's Maryland Chapter has helped fund over $200,000 for the Rebecca Ava Rabinowitz Diagnostic Laboratory at the University of Maryland Children’s Hospital for Children. This facility has made important strides in the detection of multiple viruses which allows identification of a virus to be shortened from an average of 12 days to less than 48 hours. Babies are not mini-adults. Their immune systems are different, so a rapid, correct diagnosis and immediate treatment are critical. Babies also exhibit symptoms differently than if they were infected with the same virus as an older child.

R Baby is a 501(c)3 public charity started by Phyllis, a Baltimore native, and Andrew Rabinowitz who lost their 9-day-old daughter Rebecca after a misdiagnosis of a viral infection proved fatal.
