6 Towson Area Residents Named Citizens of the Year

Baltimore County Councilman David Marks said contributions ranged from coordinating everything from fireworks to Ridgely Manor Park.

Baltimore County Councilman David Marks released the following announcement Thursday.

Six residents of Loch Raven and Towson will be recognized as “Fifth District Citizens of the Year,” a program that Marks created in 2011 to honor those who have made outstanding contributions to the community.

The awards will be presented at the Greater Towson Council of Community Associations’ holiday party at Aigburth Vale on Dec. 18, to the following individuals:

  • Christian Estes—In recognition of his leadership in reporting unlawful behavior and successfully working to install lighting in the Burkleigh Square community.
  • Jason Garber—In recognition of his leadership as President of the Associates of Loch Raven Village. Working with neighbors and other community leaders, Jason has been a key leader in securing air conditioning at Pleasant Plains Elementary School; redeveloping the Raytheon property; and implementing civic events such as the Fourth of July fireworks.
  • Wendy Jacobs—In recognition of her leadership in planting trees in the West Towson community.
  • Mandy Stepp—In recognition of her leadership as President of the Ridgely Manor Community Association. In two years, Mandy and her neighbors created a community association and worked tirelessly to create Ridgely Manor Park.
  • Ken Wetzel—Presented posthumously in recognition of his leadership of the American Legion Towson Post No. 22 and for contributions to Towson and faithful service to the United States of America.
  • Cathleen White—In recognition of her leadership as founder of the Baltimore Chapter of the Christ Child Society. CCS is a non-denominational group of volunteers of all faiths whose mission is service of children and families in the Baltimore Community. Organizations they serve include the ARC Baltimore, Armistead Gardens School, Beans & Bread, Family Crisis Center, Hampden Family Center, Holy Angels Catholic School, Mother Seton Academy, Pregnancy Center North, Sarah’s Hope at Hannah More (Women and Childrens Homeless Shelter), Sisters Academy of Baltimore, Susanna Wesley House, The Stork’s Nest/Bayview, Turn Around and Our Daily Bread (St Pius X).
