7-Hour Lines At Towson Town Center's Build-A-Bear Reported

Towson was among the location that were part of the Build-A-Bear craze on Thursday, with reports of hours-long lines.

TOWSON, MD — When Build-A-Bear offered customers the chance to pay their age for a bear this week, the promotion seemingly worked too well. The toy store's one-day promotion created an overwhelming response. Crowns inundated area malls Thursday with hours-long lines stretching out of the stores.

One customer reported Towson Town Center was "insane" so she went to the White Marsh Mall, where Build-A-Bear was out of bears by 2:30 p.m.

The line at Towson was seven hours, according to Fox 45.

Build-A-Bear announced the lines were closed at all of its stores several hours after the event began due to safety and crowd concerns, including the Towson Town Center store. Vouchers were offered as a result.

The pandemonium came in response to the toy company's special deal for Thursday: Get any "Make-Your-Own" furry friend for the price of a kid's age, as long as the child was in the store. Any 3-year-old could walk away with a bear — which normally costs $35 or so — for just $3.

The company offered vouchers to those who were in line when the event was closed and also said it would extend deals to people on its website.

Build-A-Bear said that it was giving vouchers to guests who were in line that they could use for a future purchase, and Build-A-Bear Bonus Club members who log into their accounts by Wednesday, July 18, can also get vouchers, which the company says will be honored until Aug. 31.
