In addition to his time as a council member, the 78-year-old also served as a member of the House of Delegates from 1975 to 2014. Before that, he also taught math within the Baltimore County Public Schools system.

"I have spent over 51 years in public service, and my greatest pleasure has been representing my constituents in the northern, western and eastern areas of Baltimore County," Kach wrote.

"I am the longest serving Republican elected official in Maryland history, of which I am very proud."

"I will sorely miss my constituents who have worked with me and my office to create this special place to live, grow work and play," he added.

Kach's time in office includes efforts to secure funding for two high schools, senior centers and prevent the Baltimore County Urban Rural Demarcation Line from being moved, among other work.
