TOWSON, MD — Sunday night's planned fireworks celebration in Towson has been postponed due to severe weather in the forecast.

Citing "an abundance of caution for the safety of our residents, guests, volunteers, and our fireworks crew," Towson Communities Alliance President Phoebe Evans Letocha announced the cancellation in an email Sunday afternoon.

The event was to take place at 9 p.m. at Loch Raven Technical Academy.

The news comes after the annual fireworks display, originally set for Saturday, was moved to Sunday due to an issue with the fireworks vendor.

"We know many were looking forward to the event, and we share your disappointment," Letocha wrote in the email on Sunday. "We are working to reschedule the fireworks as part of a future community event within the next three months and will announce the new date as soon as it is confirmed."

The area was under an air quality alert Sunday, with a heat advisory in effect until 8 p.m. and a flood watch in place until 1 a.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service. Showers and thunderstorms were in the evening forecast, with a 90 percent chance of precipitation.
