BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — More than 100 workers could be out of a job in October after a global bookseller announced it would be closing its warehouse in Baltimore County.
A notice posted to the Maryland Department of Labor's Work Adjustment and Retraining Notification log detailed that 136 workers would be laid off by ThriftBooks Global, LLC.
The WARN advisory states layoffs take effect Oct. 31 after employees were notified of the move in late August.
The closing warehouse is located in Halethorpe, at 4734 Trident Court, and measures out to be more than 120,000 square feet, according to available listings.
Citing a ThriftBooks statement, Baltimore Business Journal reported that the plant closure comes as the company aims to relocate operations to Arizona to consolidate its network.
The bookseller told the outlet that relocation options and placement support are being offered to its 136 employees.
Since launching in 2003, the online bookseller has been considered one of the biggest providers of used and new books globally.
ThriftBooks' Halethorpe warehouse is one of five sites based across the nation. Other locations are based near Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta and Phoenix.
