Do you have any previous political experience? If so, please state and explain how that experience will influence your time on the Baltimore Co. Board of Education if elected.

I was the 2022 elected Baltimore County Board of Education Member representing School Board District 3.

What is the biggest issue facing Baltimore County Public Schools, as well as students? How do you intend to address those issues?

The greatest challenge facing BCPS and its students is behavior, both among students and the adults who influence the classroom environment. Today's students are growing up in a technology-driven world shaped by instant information and immediate gratification. Schools should provide a thoughtful balance: classrooms must be welcoming spaces where students can step away from digital distractions, focus on learning, and build the skills they need for a productive future.

Addressing behavior requires strong relationships among students, educators, families, and the broader school community. When adults communicate consistently, model respect, and work together to reinforce clear expectations, students are more likely to feel supported and accountable. Teachers also need meaningful support from school leadership and families when disruptive behavior interferes with learning. By building trust, encouraging open communication, and recognizing positive choices, we can create safer, more respectful classrooms where every student has the opportunity to learn and succeed.

How would your work experience benefit the goals/objectives you've outlined in your campaign and/or the office you're seeking? How do you differ from other candidates running against you?

For the past 20 years, and counting, I have had the privilege of serving as an administrative assistant within the same organization. This experience has taught me the importance of belonging to a strong team united by a shared purpose, one that supports one another and works collaboratively toward meaningful goals.

That same spirit of teamwork is essential as we continue working with our new superintendent, Dr. Heiser. By building trust, communicating openly, and supporting one another, we can maintain our positive momentum and create the conditions students need to thrive. I am excited to move forward together and remain committed to helping every student achieve greater success.

What is your opinion of the work being done by the current seat holder, and how will you improve on it?

As the current officeholder, I am proud of the progress I have made in advancing our moral imperative: every student can learn and succeed. Over the past four years, I have advocated for a stronger cell phone policy, reduced student-to-device ratios, and expanded public comment so the Board can hear from a broader and more diverse cross-section of our community.

I have carefully examined each fiscal-year budget to ensure that resources are distributed responsibly and directed toward our classrooms, students, and teachers. Throughout my tenure, I have made decisions with student outcomes at the center of every consideration.

During a second term, I will continue and broaden these efforts, strengthening accountability, expanding community engagement, and working collaboratively to ensure that every student has the support and opportunity to achieve their full potential.

A student brings a gun/weapon to campus without setting off any red flags.

What security measures would you advocate for to prevent such an incident? Do you believe schools need stricter security measures? Metal detectors? Explain.

First and foremost, students, educators, and staff deserve to feel safe in our school buildings. Bullying, intimidation, harassment, and other threatening behavior cannot be tolerated. Everyone involved must be held accountable, while also ensuring that schools provide appropriate support and intervention.

Although we should not have to live in a world where schools are viewed as potential targets for weapons or violence, we must acknowledge this reality and take responsible precautions. Strong safety policies are essential, including secure waiting areas that prevent visitors from accessing classrooms, ensuring exterior doors remain locked and are never propped open, and providing every school with a clear, regularly practiced, and actionable emergency response plan.

Safety must remain a shared responsibility. By combining thoughtful policies, ongoing training, open communication, and collaboration among school leaders, staff, families, students, and emergency responders, we can create safer and more secure learning environments for everyone.

The county has seen a spike in incidents involving teen brawls. What steps would you take to curb incidents?

Teens, especially those representing BCPS, should understand that being part of Team BCPS means holding themselves to a higher standard of respect, even when disagreements arise. Students who participate in on- or off-campus fights should be held accountable, as should those who record or share them.

Unfortunately, social media attention, including clicks and likes, can encourage this behavior. As a school system, we must clearly communicate and consistently uphold the standard that violence, intimidation, and the promotion of these incidents have no place in Team BCPS.
