BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — The 2026-2027 Maryland Blue Ribbon Schools list was released Tuesday, revealing more than 20 educational institutions that were recognized for academic excellence.
The listing was announced by Gov. Wes Moore and totals 23 schools throughout the Old Line State.
Schools that make the ranking are rated on a mix of factors such as state and national assessments and a school's ability to close any educational gaps.
Established in 1982, the program is administered by the Maryland State Department of Education in partnership with the archdioceses of Baltimore and Washington.
"Maryland's Blue Ribbon Schools demonstrate what is possible when talented educators, dedicated students, and supportive communities come together around a shared commitment to excellence," Joshua Michael, president of the Maryland State Board of Education, said in a statement.
Regions represented with the latest selection of schools include Baltimore City and Montgomery, Harford, Carroll, Anne Arundel, Frederick, Howard, Calvert and St. Mary's counties.
In addition to 12 public schools, honorees include six and five schools under the archdioceses of Baltimore and Washington, respectively.
Schools will be formally honored at a Dec. 8 meeting held by the Maryland State Board of Education, as well as during a General Assembly session in the coming spring. A banner, flag, and award citations will be issued.
