Assistance Center of Towson Churches: A Moving Experience

Visiting the wonderful refurbished ACTC building the start of Week 27, Saturday, December 7 was a moving experience in more ways than one.
A group of about 15 volunteers were busy taking the first steps needed for the week-long process of occupying the facility, with an eye on opening for business on Monday, December 16. Clearly a cause for celebration, it also meant that very soon the folks who had enjoyed working together long and hard for this project on Saturdays and weekdays over a period of six months would not be seeing each other again as a group.

It was almost sad, even though I heard reports of plans for undertaking other projects of their own that had been put on the back burner. For example, one looks forward to installing hard wood floors in his son's new home. Another will be installing a new kitchen counter top in his own house. Others have commitments to a variety of outreach projects at different locations.

Besides eavesdropping, I watched while quantities of canned food were moved from the undercroft to the sturdy, new racks in the front section of ACTC. Some furniture had already been moved and put in place, but there was more yet to be picked up and delivered, and a lot more to be done. I am looking forward to photographing ACTC's first customer in our revamped quarters the morning of Monday, December 16!

Hold 3 p.m., Sunday, January 26 as the date to join the joyous occasion of gathering at Memorial Hall, Trinity Episcopal Church for the "Rededication Celebration." Invitations are forthcoming.
