Baltimore County Employees Win $150K: Maryland Lottery

A group that works in Towson and went in on Powerball tickets together will split their prize 10 ways.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — A group of Baltimore County employees that has pooled money for 15 years to buy lotto tickets cashed in on a recent Powerball game.

The coworkers call themselves the “Terrific Ten,” according to the Maryland Lottery, which reports they work for the Baltimore County Office of Permits, Approvals and Inspections.

Members of the group reside in Baldwin, Baltimore, Fallston, Finksburg, Kingsville, Reisterstown and Westminster in Maryland, while another lives in Delaware, officials said.

“We’ve had a few that have come and gone, but it’s mostly the same people,” the group leader told lottery officials of their 15-year office pool.

The Terrific Ten won $150 in the past and was shocked by their $150,000 prize in the Jan. 9 Powerball drawing.

“When I first looked at the ticket...I had to get my glasses,” one said.

They matched four numbers and the red Power Ball, then tripled their winnings because they added the $1 Power Play option to the ticket, lottery officials said.

“My adrenaline was pumping for about half an hour,” another member of the Terrific Ten said.

Each Terrific Ten member will receive $9,937.50 after taxes, according to the Maryland Lottery.

One said he planned to put his winnings toward his son and grandson, lottery officials said.

Others in the group said they would be paying bills and going on vacation with their prize money.

Their winning ticket came from Cranberry Liquors at 405 North Center Street in Westminster.
