Baltimore County Opens 4th Coronavirus Test Site As Cases Climb

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — In Baltimore County 3,448 people have tested positive for the new coronavirus, state health officials reported Monday morning. A total of 136 people have died in Baltimore County from COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the virus, officials said. Another 15 Baltimore County residents are believed to have died from the virus, but test results are pending as of Monday.

Baltimore County is opening a new testing site Monday in Dundalk that is the second walk-up clinic in the county. All people who want to be tested for the virus at the county-run sites must have a doctor's order and appointment.

"Additional testing capacity is critical to keeping county residents safe as we continue responding to this pandemic, and is a necessary condition for opening back up," County Executive Johnny Olszewski said. "This new site gives us even more capacity to perform tests in communities across Baltimore County."

Based on county heath data, the ZIP codes with the highest number of coronavirus cases of as Monday are as follows:

• 21228 (Catonsville) with 330 cases
• 21133 (Randallstown) with 275 cases
• 21234 (Parkville) with 255 cases
• 21117 (Owings Mills) with 234 cases

The 21228 ZIP code is listed among the state's top 10 for coronavirus cases.

The clinic in Dundalk will offer 50 appointments daily at the Dundalk Health Center, 7700 Dunmanway, Baltimore, MD 21222.

• Timonium drive-thru — Maryland State Fairgrounds, 2200 York Rd., Timonium, MD 21093

Those with questions can call the Baltimore County COVID-19 Hotline from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily at 410-887-3816.

"We want to ensure that all of our neighborhoods have access to available testing," Baltimore County Health Officer Dr. Gregory William Branch said in a statement. "Alongside social distancing and contact tracing, test sites are a very important tool in our arsenal against this pandemic."

Baltimore County aims to hire 60 additional contact trace investigators for temporary positions by July. To prepare people for the job, CCBC is opening a free online course in contact tracing starting Monday.

Baltimore County has the third highest number of coronavirus cases in the state as of Monday among Maryland's 24 jurisdictions, based on state health data, which shows the following breakdown by case number:
