Cinemark Towson Reveals Grand Opening Date
From parking to lighting and crosswalks, Baltimore County reports it's ready.
Towson is ready for "the next big thing," Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz announced Friday, referencing the area's new Cinemark Towson theater.
"Baltimore County is well prepared for the next big thing in downtown Towson— Cinemark's grand opening," Kamenetz said.
The entertainment venue is slated to open on July 10.
To prepare for the new attraction, Kamenetz said county agencies addressed various parking, public safety and pedestrian issues.
- Parking: There are now more than 5,100 parking spaces in downtown Towson, including 850 spots in the new Towson Square garage next to Cinemark, according to a statement from Baltimore County. Moviegoers with validated parking pay $2 to park for four hours at the Towson Square or nearby library-district court garage. The Baltimore County Revenue Authority, which manages five downtown Towson garages, has pay-before-you-leave stations to expedite the payment process, the statement said.
- Public Safety: Baltimore County has created a new post with five officers to patrol the entertainment district.
- Pedestrian Improvements: Downtown lighting has been upgraded, so the area is 50 percent brighter, the county reported. Improved crosswalks and baffles were installed on East Joppa Road between Towson Town Center and Towson Square to prevent jay walking and increase pedestrian safety, according to the county's statement.
