BBB of Greater Maryland Sets New Shred Day Record
A record-setting 44.7 tons of paper were shredded at BBB's 10th annual 'Shred Day' at Timonium fairgrounds and IKEA parking lot.

(BALTIMORE, MD) May 5, 2017 – Better Business Bureau serving Greater Maryland broke all previous records this past Saturday, April 29th at its 10th Annual Shred Day, shredding over 44.7 tons of documents unloaded from 1,860 vehicles.
The free event is part of a national effort to reduce identity theft and was located at the Maryland State Fairgrounds and IKEA Baltimore. It is also BBB Educational Foundation’s primary fundraiser. With an average of 44 tons of paper destroyed and recycled per car, donations in excess of $5,000 were collected to benefit the 501(c)3 charity.
The event was also recognized by Governor Larry Hogan with a special citation acknowledging BBB’s ten year history of providing the community with on-site document destruction and identity theft prevention education.

Ten mobile trucks, provided by Iron Mountain, shredded on site at both locations with 100 percent of the paper collected being recycled. The event, which was open to the public and business community, has grown in popularity over the years from humble beginnings at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport.
“We are always thrilled and excited to see the wonderful community response to this annual event. People come year after year and are so appreciative of this much-needed service,” remarked Angie Barnett, president/CEO of BBB serving Greater Maryland. “Moving our White Marsh team to the well-known destination, IKEA Baltimore, was tremendous. They really knocked it out of the park with an amazing turnout.”
