BCPS Cancels Winter Sports For 2020–2021 Season
Sports will be suspended this winter in Baltimore County Public Schools, which also announced two class schedule changes for January.
BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Baltimore County Public Schools made several announcements Monday, including about sports and instruction. Both will impact scheduling for January.
Winter athletics are canceled, Baltimore County Public Schools announced Monday, Jan. 11. Officials say they are looking into possible alternatives for athletes looking to participate in sports this winter.
Baltimore County Public Schools cited coronavirus infections in making its decision and reports it will look to Feb. 13 for the start of the next season.

There are 42,307 cases of the virus in Baltimore County as of Monday, Jan. 11. The positivity rate is 6.3 percent, and 48 percent of residents have been tested for the virus, county health data shows.
Also a change from the previous plan, students will participate in independent, or asynchronous, learning on Wednesday, Jan. 20.

Those in elementary and high school will also participate in asynchronous learning Wednesday, Jan. 27. Meanwhile, on that day, high school students will have a full day of instruction that is live and virtual.
