BCPS Offers Superintendent Contract To Verletta White

TOWSON, MD – The search for a new superintendent of Baltimore County Public Schools is over. The Baltimore County Board of Education has voted to offer a four-year contract to Interim Superintendent Verletta White to serve as the permanent superintendent.

White has been the interim superintendent since July 1, 2017, after her predecessor abruptly resigned. Before that, she was the chief academic officer for Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS).

White is a graduate of the school system and has worked there for 23 years. She and her husband have two children who are currently enrolled in BCPS as well.

Local lawmakers issued statements of support for the school board's decision Tuesday night.

"I would like to thank the members of the school board who have taken a big step towards stability, financial prudence and putting our children first," County Council Chair Julian Jones said in a statement Tuesday. "I would also like to thank everyone who raised their voice, attended meetings and wrote letters to make this happen. The students of Baltimore County and the BCPS system are the big winners here."

Added Jones: "Now, let us move forward and work together to make Baltimore County Public Schools the BEST in the nation!"

The county executive also issued congratulations and voiced his support for the school board's decision.

"I am delighted that the Board of Education recognized the importance of creating stability for students, teachers and administrators," Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz said in a statement.

"Superintendent White has dedicated her life to the Baltimore County Schools," said Kamenetz, "and I look forward to continuing to work with her."
