California Chrome Aims for Triple Crown: Where to Watch the Belmont Stakes
The horse runs in Saturday's Belmont Stakes, the final leg of horse racing's Triple Crown. He's already won the Kentucky Derby and Maryland's Preakness Stakes.
California Chrome, the thoroughbred that could be the first horse to win horse racing’s Triple Crown since 1978 in Saturday’s Belmont Stakes, has the country buzzing.
With his win at Baltimore's Pimlico race track, the home of the Preakness Stakes, a Triple Crown became a distinct possibility. The last Triple Crown winner was Affirmed in 1978.
Pimlico has planned a whole day around the running of the Belmont, with guests able to not only watch a simulcast of the race. Signature cocktails are planned, a buffet, and souvenir California Chrome buttons are a few of the perks offered.

Gates open at 10:45 a.m. at Pimlico, with post time at 12:45 p.m.
According to Fox Sports, horses with the best chance to play spoiler include Tonalist, Derby runner-up Commanding Curve, Preakness runner-up Ride On Curlin and Commissioner.

» Where to watch the race:Northville Downs and Hazel Park Raceway will be simulcasting the Belmont Stakes Saturday. Post time is 6:52 p.m. ET, and live coverage will begin on NBC at 4:30 p.m. ET. In Michigan, watch WDIV, Channel 4.
Detroit Free Press columnist Jeff Seidel found the horse's co-owner, Perry Martin, in a Google search, dialed him up and wrote that he was “stunned” when the Michigan native answered his own phone. When asked what winning the Triple Crown would mean, Martin was hesitant.

Belmont Park’s handicappers made California Chrome a 3-5 favorite to win the race, Forbes reports. The Daily Racing Form gives the horse lower odds, 2-5.
It’s estimated 15 million people will watch the race, the longest in the Triple Crown series, and 14.9 million of them will be pulling for California Chrome to cross the finish line first.
