The Department of Art + Design, Art History, Art Education presents the paintings of artist Philemona Williamson who creates narrative images in which she makes a kind of visual poetry, investigating the lives of adolescents of all races and genders. Her work has been shown in many one-person and group exhibitions throughout the United States and abroad, including the IV Bienal Internacional de Pintura en Cuenca, Ecuador, SUNY College in Old Westbury, NY; the John Michael Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan, WI, the African American Museum in Hempstead, NY; the Queens Museum of Art in NYC, the Montclair Art Museum, and The Bronx Museum in NYC. Williamson is represented in numerous private and public collections, including The Sheldon Museum of Art, Lincoln, NE; The Mint Museum of Art, Charlotte, NC; Hampton University Museum, VA; Mott-Warsh Art Collection, Flint MI; Reader's Digest Art Collection and AT&T. She is represented by the June Kelly Gallery, New York.
