Film Festival Focuses on People with Developmental Disabilities

Make Valentine's Day special by attending a film festival created by, and featuring people with, developmental disabilities.

Make Valentine’s Day truly special by attending a screening of memorable, entertaining, and even romantic films created by – and featuring people with – autism and other developmental disabilities.

The Sprout Film Festival – presented by The Arc Baltimore and Towson University’s Hussman Center for Adults with Autism – will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, at Towson University’s West Village Commons, 424 Emerson Drive, Towson, MD.

This marks the third year in which the Hussman Center and The Arc have joined together to present the Sprout Film Festival, according to Stephen H. Morgan, Executive Director of The Arc Baltimore. Morgan notes, “The festival’s many films are not only extremely entertaining, but help in raising the profile of individuals with developmental disabilities and exposing the general public to the important issues this population faces.”

Morgan continues, “We are very confident viewers will be treated to an enlightening experience that will help to break down stereotypes, promoting greater acceptance of differences and increasing awareness of similarities. Since it’s Valentine’s Day, we’ve include some films with romance themes to help celebrate the day.”

About a dozen films in all will be screened at the festival. The films are from a number of countries and include documentaries, narratives, and music videos.
