Johns Hopkins Hospital Holds Steady in Best Hospitals Rankings

In U.S. News and World Report's annual 'Best Hospitals' list, Johns Hopkins maintained 2014 rank.

The annual ”Best Hospitals” list is out from U.S. News & World Report, and Johns Hopkins Hospital is tied for third.

The 2015 rankings put Johns Hopkins Hospital on par with UCLA Medical Center, behind Massachusetts General Hospital and the Mayo Clinic, which ranked first and second, respectively.

“We are in excellent company and delighted to be among institutions that continue to aim to deliver the very best care to patients,” Paul B. Rothman, dean of the medical faculty and CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine, said.

The top hospitals for 2015–2016 are as follows, according to U.S. News:

  1. Massachusetts General Hospital; Boston
  2. Mayo Clinic; Rochester, Minn.
  3. Johns Hopkins Hospital; Baltimore
  4. UCLA Medical Center; Los Angeles
  5. Cleveland Clinic; Cleveland
  6. Brigham and Women’s Hospital; Boston
  7. New York-Presbyterian University Hospital of Columbia and Cornell; New York
  8. UCSF Medical Center; San Francisco
  9. Hospitals of the University of Pennsylvania-Penn Presbyterian; Philadelphia
  10. Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University; St. Louis
  11. Northwestern Memorial Hospital; Chicago
  12. NYU Langone Medical Center; New York
  13. UPMC-University of Pittsburgh Medical Center; Pittsburgh
  14. Duke University Hospital; Durham, N.C.
  15. Stanford Health-Stanford Hospital; Stanford, Calif.

To determine the rankings, U.S. News evaluates federal data from nearly 5,000 hospitals and surveys from more than 140,000 physicians in 16 specialties.

It also has a best regional hospital guide to help patients find the best specialists in their area.

Nationally, Hopkins was ranked the best hospital for rheumatology and received high marks in other specialties including ear/nose/throat, neurology and neurosurgery, ophthalmology, psychiatry and urology.

Johns Hopkins Hospital topped the “Best Hospitals” rankings from 1991 to 2011 and this year it ranked first in Maryland across all specialties, according to a statement from the university.

Officials thanked those who work at the hospital and school of medicine for their contributions in achieving the ranking.

“We cannot offer excellent care or earn national accolades without the people who work at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine,” Johns Hopkins Health System President Ronald R. Peterson said. “The nurses, faculty, and staff deliver the promise of medicine every single day, and for this we are grateful.”
