Kamenetz Announces Run For Maryland Governor In 2018 Election

TOWSON, MD - Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz has officially announced he plans to run for the governor of Maryland in the 2018 election.

"I want to be your next governor because, like so many of us, I look around at what’s happening and I’m deeply worried that our state -- and our country -- are headed in the wrong direction," Kamenetz wrote in a letter released on Monday by his campaign. The full text of the letter is enclosed below.

Kamenetz, who has been county executive in Baltimore County since 2010, previously served on the Baltimore County Council and as assistant state's attorney. In recent years, he has taken a stand on national and state issues, including the DACA program and transgender rights.

He is vying for the chance to face incumbent Gov. Larry Hogan, with whom he has sparred over issues including air conditioning in schools.

The primary will be on June 26, 2018, with early voting starting June 14, 2018.

I am writing today to tell you about my candidacy to be the next governor of the State of Maryland.

I want to be your next governor because, like so many of us, I look around at what’s happening and I’m deeply worried that our state -- and our country -- are headed in the wrong direction.

We can’t afford to have a governor who gets nothing done, hedges his bets to play both sides of the fence, and refuses to stand up to Trump and protect our values, our communities, and our state.
