Mohler Sworn In As Baltimore County Executive

TOWSON, MD -- Baltimore County Executive Donald I. Mohler III is now official. He was sworn in as the new county executive, less than a week after the county council voted unanimously to appoint him.

Mohler will fill the role left vacant by County Executive Kevin Kamenetz, who died at age 60 from a sudden heart attack on May 10, 2018.

The council voted 7-0 in favor of Mohler as the new county executive at its May 24 meeting.

Mohler has extensive knowledge of the inner workings of Baltimore County government, having served during two administrations. Since 2010, he worked under Kamenetz as chief of staff; before that, he held the role of acting chief of staff and was also the communications director under County Executive Jim Smith.

Baltimore County Clerk of the Circuit Court Julie Ensor did the honors, swearing Mohler in as the new county executive at the historic courthouse in Towson at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 29.

Mohler is now the 13th county executive for Baltimore County. Here is the roster, according to the state of Maryland:

Between the death of Kamenetz and the appointment of Mohler, the acting county executive was Fred Homan, who had been the county's chief administrative officer under Kamenetz.
